Healthier North Walsham Five a Day Trail

In the October half term Healthier North Walsham launched its first trail around the town! We teamed up with Active Norfolk to plan a route around North Walsham and calculate the the step count and distance travelled, and we teamed up with North Walsham Play who helped us with the logistics of the trail and with the printing and creation of our posters and certificates. 

Following Covid-19 and the vaccination clinics, it was highlighted as to how much the community came together and worked alongside each other to make sure everything went smoothly and everyone was looked after, including staff. We wanted to continue to build strong relationships with other local businesses and this brought about the idea of the trail. We wanted to make the trail fun for children but also interactive and educational- the whole time getting everyone active. We approached shops around the town and explained the trail and what we wanted to do and we soon had lots of interest from businesses wanting to participate. We have also teamed up with Sainsbury’s and Waitrose who kindly offered to provide us with fruit for a fruit hamper as a prize draw. We met with Cafe Kitale who kindly offered participants a free bottle of water and piece of fruit if they show their trail sheet. 

The feedback we have received has been very positive, with lots of children sending us photos of themselves with their certificates and reporting that the shops were cheering them on whilst they were doing the interactive activities such as jumping jacks. We were also approached by BBC Radio Norfolk who asked us to speak on their daily show about the trail and what we were doing.

We look forward to organising more events in the town, and once we rebrand to Healthier North Norfolk we plan to organise similar events in the other towns around the area
